Shopify product page videos: what to show and how to add them
Your Shopify store has great photos, but shoppers still have questions. How big is it? What does it feel like? How does it work? Shopify product page videos answer those questions in a few seconds, right next to the Add to Cart button.
This guide covers what to put in a product page video, how Shopify handles video files according to its own help center, and how to reuse the same video in your ads.
Why add video to your Shopify product page
Online shoppers can't pick up your product. A short video does the next best thing:
- It shows scale. A hand, a shelf, a bag. No more guessing from a tape measure in a photo.
- It shows motion. Pouring, folding, clicking, glowing. Things photos can't do.
- It answers questions. How it opens, how it's used, what's in the box.
- It shows you. A short founder clip reminds shoppers there's a real small business behind the store.
We can't promise a video will raise sales, but it gives shoppers more of what they need to decide.
What to show in a Shopify product video
The hero video
Fifteen to thirty seconds: the product from a few angles, in use, with on-screen labels for the two or three details buyers care about most.
- Opening line: “Here's how it works.”
- Best fit: Product showcase ($299)
What's in the box
Everything laid out piece by piece, so buyers know what arrives.
- Best fit: Product showcase ($299)
Three ways to use it
Great for versatile products: a tote that's also a beach bag, a sauce that's also a marinade.
- Best fit: Product showcase ($299)
The why-we-made-it clip
For your home page or an About section, your own story in your own voice.
- Best fit: Founder story ($449)
Keep claims about what the product does truthful and backed up. The FTC's advertising guidance is a good check. Selling cosmetics or skincare? See our beauty product video ideas.
How Shopify product page videos work: files and sizes
Here's what Shopify's help center says about video in product media. Check the linked pages for the latest, since limits can change.
- Upload a file or link one. You can upload a video to a product's media, or add a YouTube or Vimeo video by URL (Shopify: Add media).
- Uploaded file limits. Shopify lists MOV, MP4 and WEBM, up to 1 GB and 10 minutes, with a maximum of 4K resolution (Shopify: Product media types).
- Aspect ratios. Shopify recommends ratios including 16:9, 9:16, 4:3, 3:4 and 1:1, so vertical and square videos are both options.
- YouTube links. Use the standard YouTube watch link. Shopify notes that Shorts links aren't currently supported, and the video should be Public or Unlisted.
- Cloud storage links won't work. A shared drive or cloud folder link opens a preview page, not the file, so upload the file itself.
Which shape should you use? A 9:16 video fills a phone screen, which is where many shoppers browse. Some themes show square media more neatly in a product gallery. Every video we make comes in 9:16, and a square (1:1) or wide (16:9) version is a $49 add-on. Preview it in your theme before you decide.
How to film clips for your product page video
- Find good light. A window in daytime beats any lamp.
- Clear the background. One color, no clutter.
- Get three shots. A wide, a close-up and the product in use.
- Hold steady. Prop your phone or lean on a table. A few seconds per clip is plenty.
- Film the exact product. Same color and size as the product page.
Upload up to five clips or photos and your logo, type a few lines about the product, and that's all we need. No shipping, no filming crew.
One video, many places
The video on your product page can also be your ad. Post the vertical version on Instagram Reels, Facebook, TikTok and YouTube Shorts with an offer on the end card to send people back to your store. Our social video ad specs guide covers the sizes.

DIY Shopify product videos vs one flat price
Making a product video yourself usually means a video generator app, a voice app, an editing app, a stock music library and a caption app. Published plans for each kind of tool commonly run from about $6 to $40 a month. One example stack of five monthly plans we priced in October 2026 came to about $116 a month, or about $1,392 a year, before extra credits. Our guide to why video tool subscriptions add up explains how it creeps.
A flat price is simpler. A Product showcase is $299 for a finished 15 to 30-second video with voiceover, on-screen text, music, captions, an end card with your offer and post text. It's ready in 3 business days with one revision, and you can use it on your store and every channel for as long as you like.
- Product showcase, $299: the hero video for each product page.
- Quick promo, $199: sale and new-arrival ads that point to your store.
- Founder story, $449: your home page and About page.
