Which Video Ad Is Right for Your Business? A Simple Decision Guide

You know you need a video. Then you look at the options and it gets confusing fast. Should it be a quick promo, a person talking to the camera, or a little animated film? Figuring out which video ad is right for your business comes down to two things: what you want the video to do, and how much story you need to tell.

This guide walks through the four kinds of video we make, what each one is good at, and a few quick questions that point you to the right one. No jargon, no hard sell. Just a clear way to choose.

The four video ad types at a glance

Here is the short version. Every one of these includes voiceover, music, captions and one revision.

The right pick depends less on price and more on the job you are hiring the video to do.

Start with your goal, not the format

Before you compare formats, finish this sentence: "I want people who see this video to..."

If two answers feel true, pick the one closest to the sale. You can always add the other later.

Promo video vs spokesperson ad: offers or trust?

These two are the workhorses for paid social ads. Both are short, vertical and built to run on Reels, Stories, TikTok and Shorts.

Pick the Quick promo when

Pick the Spokesperson ad when

One honest note: our presenters are not your customers, and we never present them as real reviewers. Videos with realistic people are labeled as dramatizations. If you would rather not use a presenter, the ad can be built around your own photos instead.

Animated short vs animated story: how much story do you need?

Both are 3D animated, family-film style, with custom characters, voices, music, captions and an end card. You choose from 3 story concepts, so you are never stuck with an idea you do not love. The difference is room to breathe.

For a real example, Deckhand Trash Co. has six 3D animated films with us. If your story has a beginning, middle and end, our guide on how to tell your business story in 60 seconds shows how to shape it.

Which video ad is right for you? Quick questions

Answer these in order and stop at the first yes.

  1. Is your main goal one specific offer or deal? Go with the Quick promo.
  2. Do customers need to trust you before they reach out? Go with the Spokesperson ad.
  3. Do you want people to remember your brand, not just one deal? Go with the Animated short.
  4. Do you have a story worth a full minute, like how you started or why you care? Go with the Animated story.

Length matters too. Where will the video run? Our guide on how long a video ad should be breaks down 15, 30 and 60 seconds by platform. And if you need the same video in square or wide shapes, the social video ad specs cheat sheet covers sizes. An extra size (1:1 or 16:9) is a $49 add-on.

Budget a factor? Our guide on how much a video ad costs puts these prices in context.

Doing it yourself vs a flat price

You can make any of these yourself. Plenty of owners try a video generator app, a voice app, an editing app, a stock music library and a caption app. Published plans for each kind of tool commonly run from about $6 to $40 a month. One example stack of five monthly plans we priced in October 2026 came to about $116 a month (about $1,392 a year), before extra credits. Then there is your time learning each one.

With a flat price you skip all of that. You type a few lines, record a voice note, or upload your photos and logo, and you get a finished video you can post on any channel for as long as you like. No tech skills needed.

Compare all four side by side on our video ad pricing page, or order your video when you know which one fits.

Questions

what is the difference between a promo video and an animated short
